Creating a lawless state

Have we become a NIMBY borough?

I’m appalled by the sheer outrageous actions of the so called Combe Haven defenders.

They appear to have created themselves a lawless state where they can dig up wild flowers without fear of prosecution, whilst imposing their minority views on the council tax payers of Hastings and St Leonards with a total disregard for any other point of view.

They complain about lack of democracy and waste of money, when it is their organisation that is bypassing local democracy and costing rate payers millions.

There is no opportunity for the silent majority to put over their point, who just want to travel between Bexhill and Rye, without being hindered by their endless judicial reviews regarding a strip of land that most people never knew even existed, let alone was a valuable natural resource.

They appear to believe that however long they have an issue they can raise objection after objection, when basically the rest of the borough just wants the bottle neck on the Ridge relieved.

I’m sure that the additional expense to the short cut through to the A21 has put other improvement schemes in jeopardy.

The A21 link should always have been part of the original scheme as we all knew that the Ridge would back up, but what their group fails to grasp is the massive improvement to the traffic flow that the new Combe Valley Way brings.

This issue had plagued Bexhill Road for decades.

In their eyes the right to clean air of the Bexhill Road residents is somewhat below their perceived rights to the same for the wildlife, whilst it seems to me the council’s schemes have always promoted a green or environmental element, which their constant protesting is probably now preventing as the costs spiral.

How many of these people actually live in the area anyway, let alone them deciding that costly protesting is what the people of Hastings need, have they ever asked us?

Are they acting as our collective responsible adults now?

How dare they presume that they know better!

I can only assume that these people never use a car on the road, don’t need to travel to work or ever need to get to an urgent hospital appointment in Eastbourne.

They are not accountable for the millions that they have wasted so far, and they seem to have decided that progress stopped in the middle ages.

How can an individual with an axe to bear be allowed to over-ride the local democratic process, and their continuing requesting of judicial reviews, funded by the tax payer no doubt, be allowed to continue?
