I am grateful to the Eastbourne Herald for highlighting the planning application to build a new road across a currently unspoilt field in Crowlink.

But I was surprised to read that the applicant, Ms Higgins, claims she feels this is a campaign against her personally.

Like the vast majority of those who have objected to this proposal, I have never met Ms Higgins.

What worries locals and visitors alike is that this truly special part of Sussex will lose its rare beauty and tranquillity forever if permission for this new road is given.

This is why so many people, as well as the East Dean and Friston Parish Council, the South Downs Society, and the National Trust do not support it.

This land was given to the care of the National Trust precisely so that it could be ring-fenced from the sort of commercial and corporate activity that the property in question has been increasingly marketed for.

The concern stems from a desire of many to preserve the area’s history and protect its future for its wildlife, livestock, habitat, and all who want to enjoy the unpolluted freedom it offers.
