SPRING CONCERT: Saturday March 23 at 7.30pm the Fletching Singers will be performing, in St Margaret’s Church Buxted, an all-Mozart programme, spanning his career from the age of 12 to his death at age 35. Featuring the emotionally stirring Requiem (his greatest choral work, made famous in the film Amadeus) the programme also includes Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Veni Sancte Spiritus, Laudate Dominum & Magnificat (from Solemn Vespers of the Confessor), Masonic Funeral Music and Ave Verum Corpus. Conducted by Michael Fields, with professional vocal soloists (Ansy Boothroyd, Lindsay Richardson, Mark Curtis, Sebastian Charlesworth) and chamber orchestra. 80 YEARS AGO: Sussex Express 17 March 1939. Fletching. Women’s Institute. The monthly meeting at the Griffin Hotel Assembly Room on Tuesday was well attended. Visitors were welcomed from Ringmer and Newick, and one new member was enrolled. Mrs Oakeshott gave a talk on Character Reading of the Face, and Mrs Goldsmith, of Ringmer, and Mrs Brooks, of Newick, judged the cakes in the McDougall cake-making competition, and the prize-winners were: 1, Mrs Bates; 2, Mrs Marchant; 3, Mrs Page.
