For once I agree with Barkes

Having just read Duncan Barkes' column in today's Observer I want to say how much, for once, I agree with what he says.

For years I have believed that local councils should be free from national party politics.

I have never understood why councillors do not make more fuss about the unfair and Byzantine way in which local councils are funded and the cynical way they are treated by the national government.

Local independence of councillors is dear to my heart.

If you are starting a new party dedicated to independence of thought and freedom from national interference then count me in.
