Generous friends

I AM writing on behalf of the committee of the Friends of Bersted Green Surgery with regard to the article in the Observer on the opening of the surgery by Harry Hill.

Everyone concerned with this event made the day a very happy occasion.

Harry Hill was a big hit and I would like to point out he spent at least three hours signing autographs and not one as reported.

He had time for everyone and we were very lucky to have him, thanks to Dr Bradstock-Smith.

Congratulations to all doctors, nurses and staff at the surgery.

However, we would like to say how disappointed we were there was no mention in the article of the cheque for £3,500 that was presented to the surgery on behalf of the Friends.

The amount was raised to purchase two pieces of equipment for the minor operations room: a new couch and operating light.

This equipment will be dedicated to two valued members of the committee who have sadly passed away – Sam Franks, a founder member of the group and chairman for over six years, and Phyllis Wilbriaham, who was also one of the early members and secretary for many years.

Both were extremely good at fundraising and are missed by all committee members.

The £3,500 was collected by the committee by holding bazaars, health talks, garage and car-boot sales over the past couple of years.

All this was made possible by the generosity of the patients who made donations of money, goodies for bazaars etc, and by buying books from the Friends bookcase in the surgery waiting room – I would add this is our best seller.

We would like to take this opportunity to let them know what we have purchased with their money and to thank everyone who made a donation or who helped with gifts and time.

Lastly, a big thank you to my committee who made it all possible by their dedication and hard work.
