Have a yourself a Brilliant Brighton Christmas

So this is Christmas...and what have we done? Well, quite a bit to be honest. It’s been another rollercoaster year for Brilliant Brighton, the city’s Business Improvement District.

The 517 businesses that make up the collective have invested over £2m over the last five years to fund our Brilliant Brighton Ambassadors, summer decorations and this year’s Christmas Lights. We’ve also been hugely active on social media to keep Brightonandhoveonians up to speed with all that’s going on in the city centre.

To celebrate this year’s festive season even more, we’ve teamed up with Brighton Bricks to run a Lego trail through the city centre, with £1000 worth of prizes to be won.

There’s one aim: to tick off all 42 hidden mini figures on the list. Entrants will get a chance to bag themselves one of three amazing prizes which have been donated by the Brilliant Brighton Ambassadors!

We’ve hidden Individual LEGO characters in the windows of shops, cafés and restaurants across the city, and the competition will run until Sunday December 22 .To enter, check out www.BrilliantBrighton.com for details of participating stores.

Gavin Stewart, Brilliant Brighton CEO said: “We’re really excited to be hosting our second trail, in partnership with local LEGO community group Brighton Bricks, and hope that this, along with our Christmas lights, will get people feeling festive and exploring Brilliant Brighton, our very own Business Improvement District.”

But what is a Business Improvement District? Well, they exist thanks to a piece of Government legislation that allows businesses to come together and agree to pay an additional levy to provide a range of projects that are aimed at improving the trading environment. Projects can be as diverse as arts events and street cleansing but the aim is to make the ‘district’ more appealing for businesses, visitors and residents.

The projects are allowed to run for five years, before the business community needs to be consulted again and next year we’ll be out and about asking our members whether they’d like to renew for a further term. We are keen to see the BID area grow so that more people can take advantage of the great projects that we run and on top of that, we will invite more sectors to become part of the Brilliant Brighton success story.

In the meantime, all of us here at Brilliant Brighton wish you all a very happy Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year.
