Exciting news this week for the Eastbourne Volunteers project!

Firstly, we have been granted an UnLtd Star People Do It Award. As well as a financial award that will enable the project to begin work very soon we will also be able to access professional advice to make sure we are on the right track and that our project is self-sustaining in the future.

Secondly, we have signed a licence for our very own shop premises in Eastbourne town centre! It is a small shop at 1 The Labyrinth, 7 Mark Lane and we will be using it as a base for the project and a community hub, where residents of Eastbourne can find out what is happening in their community and how to get involved.

Over the next few weeks we will be redecorating the shop and getting it ready for the project to launch officially in January. I have two big asks for the project now. Firstly, if you own a decorating business and can help us to get the shop ready we would be very grateful. It is not a big shop but painting the ceiling may need specialist equipment we don’t have so please do get in touch. We will make sure everybody knows about your company’s generosity!

Also, we are looking for sponsors who are able to help support the Eastbourne Volunteers project. Any regular monthly amount will help us to continue our work and benefit all of the clubs, groups and organisations in Eastbourne. Our sponsors will be listed on the wall of our shop and mentioned on our website so it will be great advertising for your business too!

The main aim of our project is to recruit volunteers so it will be great to have a base from which to work so that members of the public can drop in any time and find out how they can get involved locally. We will have leaflets and information about other local groups at the shop and could also run small workshops and offer training provided by other organisations.

We will have spare desk space to rent out to at least one other community project (perhaps even the possibility of a hot desk for community groups) and we can also provide a registered address and mail forwarding service to other community organisations. We want our shop to be a valuable asset to our community in Eastbourne and make sure we are making the best use of the space so if you have any other ideas for it please do get in touch. I’ve been writing about the importance of community life and the work of all of the great organisations in Eastbourne and Pevensey for over two years now, and it’s really exciting that there is going to be base to help connect the dots.

If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, helping us to redecorate the shop, work for us, have ideas or help the project in any way please email [email protected]
