“I have been increasingly aware of the irresponsible habits of cyclists...”

I refer to letter of January 10 “Cyclists with no lights question” (Carol Stanley, click here to read).

I have been increasingly aware of the irresponsible habits of cyclists: without lights, riding on pavements , cycling along one-way streets, not stopping at a red light etc.

May I make a suggestion that a small team of our wonderful police could concentrate on being ‘cyclist police officers’ for, say, six months and thus attempting to get to grips with this increasing problem in Eastbourne.

My own grandson was the culprit of cycling along a pavement and was hit by a driver coming out of her own driveway – there was suffering for both cyclist and driver.

A friend of ours was a victim when she was quietly walking out of her own driveway and traumatised by a ‘hit and run’ cyclist – this dear lady’s health has suffered ever since.

I could give more such examples but suffice to say that something has to be done to deter more potential tragedies.
