Impressed by quality of staff

Kim Leslie's letter (End of an Era...Observer, last week) regarding the contribution made by a succession of county archivists to the development of the work of West Sussex Record Office prompts me to write about the public face of this office.

As a fairly regular user of its search facilities, I have always been impressed by the quality and attitude of its staff.

It is refreshing to find a group of employees who are so consistently courteous, patient and helpful in dealing with members of the public, both in person and remotely.

Much of this behaviour is based on old-fashioned values but is none the worse for that.

To the extent that this refuge of civility is the legacy of past county archivists, then thank you indeed to them all.
