Junction should be a roundabout

I was most interested to read J.M. Young's letter in Observer of May 27 re. the experience of people going straight up King Offa Way toward Hastings on the lane reserved for vehicles turning left onto the new link road.

I gave my opinion to the council even before the junction was completed suggesting a roundabout but was told that there needs to be a pedestrian ability to cross the junction.

I can of course understand this but why can there not be pedestrian lights before or after a roundabout?

This junction has been the scene of accidents for years, now we have the added problem of people ‘undertaking’ as per J.M. Young’s letter.

We also have the added danger at this junction, and this I have seen several times, of people driving toward Hastings in the correct lane and almost having a head-on crash with somebody tearing through the lights from Hastings direction in the outside lane trying to overtake slower traffic at the bottle neck on the inside lane going toward Little Common.

We also have the repeated case of people on King Offa Way driving toward Little Common sitting in the outside lane doing less than the 40 miles an hour speed suggestion and all because they want to turn right into London Road Bexhill or even worse, creep across the traffic lights to keep in the outside lane or to turn right up past the Bexhill sports centre.

We have a similar situation along the dual carriageway section A259 toward the A22 when people once again sit in the outside lane because they want to turn right toward Hailsham or the other way coming toward Bexhill when people want to turn right toward Eastbourne, and this is about half a mile or more before the roundabout, they then seem to be shocked when other vehicles overtake on the inside.

As I am sure I have said before, there are people with cars and then there are drivers. Many on our roads seem to be the former sadly.
