Keeping your tresses intact with Davines

This week my focus is on an established sustainable brand from Italy; Davines.

I first came across this brand at Cuttlefish hair in the North Laines. It was my regular place for red highlights a few years ago. I remember my stylist Lindsey, and Steve, ribbed me for wearing a real fur collar on my vintage coat. They also sent me home with a complimentary conditioner that had a great smell to keep my new colour strong. That was my first taste of Davines, and the cool graphics and packaging really stood out.

In 1983 the Bollati family ran a research laboratory in Parma, producing luxury haircare products for renowned global cosmetic companies. Within a decade they were producing their own lines with sustainability as a guiding principle. They now have headquarters in New York, Paris, Mexico City, and the Netherlands. Davines products are also sold at my personal holy grail; the Liberty beauty floor in London.

Earlier, I washed and rinsed with the NaturalTech Nourishing Shampoo, a green creamy gel with a slight herby smell. It generates a mild natural lather (free of silicones and SLS) and leaves hair feeling clean with soothing natural actives. The grape phytoceuticals are rich in polyphenols with a strong anti-oxidant function to combat a dehydrated scalp and brittle hair.

I then conditioned for ten minutes with the Nourishing Hair Building Pak to restructure my hair shafts. My long tresses were unusually quick to comb out and felt very pliable. I finished with a dab of Love Curl Cream (a leave-in conditioner) before blow drying.

I suspect that the definition works better with more natural drying because it wasn't as good as styling by Lindsey. CurlCream has Almond for elasticising and volumising Mica to give shine, with Rhizobian gum for volume and moisture.

I spoke to Maureen at Cuttlefish Eco Salon (as it is now known) and she confirms that they sell Davines Naturaltech Nourishing shampoos and conditioners on the corner of Gloucester Road. The team also rate Davines OI All in One Milk styling spray and like to use a medium hold pliable paste for shorter do's and men's cuts.

Davines style reflects an openness to different cultures, customs, and people along with an Italian perspective on history, art, design and fashion, culture and lifestyle. They say: 'We love things that reflect simplicity and harmony because their beauty is always modern.'
