Less-abled equally entitled to have access to public transport

I WAS saddened to read that Wendy Taylor appears to be under the impression that Stagecoach has provided a fleet of very expensive buses solely for the purpose of political correctness, insofar as wheelchair users are concerned.

It is true to say that Stagecoach, in line with all other transport operators across the country, are up-dating their buses in order that they comply with the Disability Discrimination Act.

However, this is not the sole reason for providing modern spacious buses, which incorporate much better facilities for wheelchairs and pushchairs, but also have higher ceilings, more seats upstairs and extremely comfortable seats for those who are fortunate enough to be able to use them.

I'm sure Wendy would agree that the less able-bodied in our community are just as entitled to use public transport as are any other passengers, and there would certainly be an outcry if they were excluded.

Perhaps if Wendy had travelled the whole route from Brighton to Portsmouth, she would have found a very satisfied wheelchair-user boarding an easily-accessible bus.
