Let us use our path

With all the publicity about pressurising cyclists to use the cycle paths, motorists shouting to cyclists on the road to use the cycle paths should actually be reading their Highway Code rule 61:

61

Cycle Routes and Other Facilities. Use cycle routes, advanced stop lines, cycle boxes and toucan crossings unless at the time it is unsafe to do so.

Use of these facilities is not compulsory and will depend on your experience and skills, but they can make your journey safer.

Note – not compulsory.

I would also like to point out what happens when cyclists do try to use the cycle paths.

This photo was taken from a constant video I run while cycling.

This was on May 1 on the A259 eastbound towards the leisure centre.

Children in the so-called care of their parents/guardians with total disregard for anyone else were taking no notice of the advice icons on the paths denoting pedestrian and cycle paths use, nor were they taking notice of a cyclist ringing a bell.

And some of these people are supposed to be responsible parents/guardians.

Is it any wonder cyclists have to use the road instead?

No doubt these parents are also some of the motorists who choose to gesture and shout through their car windows to the cyclists about using the cycle paths.
