LETTER: Change of use without merit

Given that there is little hotel accommodation locally I find it hard to believe that the current owners of the Avondale Hotel can’t be bothered to make a go of this business as, historically, it has always been a success (providing you put in the necessary imagination and hard work).

The proposed change of use is entirely without merit and will be to the detriment of the immediate neighbourhood and Seaford generally. Our locally elected council are quite right in objecting to this nonsense.

However, this is in marked contrast to the unelected officers of Lewes District Council who think that this is another way of dumping on the good folk of Seaford. If there is such a demand for this type of emergency accommodation, then maybe they should be looking closer to home! How about the White Hart or Lewes House!

The application is from Sussex Housing. I believe that they developed Cheneys, which was subject to numerous planning applications.

There was no approval for the restaurant (to be open to the public) or for the hair salon.

Not major issues but indicative of a possible make-it-up-as-you-go attitude. Just what you need for an HMO!
