LETTER: Concerned about parking

Regarding the new Premier Inn in Lewes: being born, bred and resident in Lewes I was concerned how the new building would fit in with the existing properties, but as it has turned out the building blends in rather well.

My biggest concern is the parking arrangements. The existing public car park is now full up most times, which in time will deter visitors and shoppers using the town and car park.

When the plans were submitted to build the inn surely Lewes District Council should have made sure that there would be adequate parking spaces before granting planning permission.

I understand that the inn has 61 bedrooms, this could mean that there is a possible 61 extra cars needing parking spaces.

It seems only common sense that the existing public car park could not cope with the increase in numbers.

So why did Lewes District Council not insist on using the existing car park, used by Quora for their building store site, as parking for the inn?

Instead the council have approved plans to build nine houses on the site, this needs the council to rethink the plans now.
