LETTER: Council's response to crisis has been pitiful

I agree with Carol Hayton that Horsham District Council's response to the refugee crisis has been pitiful in agreeing to accept only ten families over the next five years (letters, 14 January 2016).

A further concern on our doorstep is the plight of the refugees living in desperate conditions in Calais and Dunkirk. The French and British governments have shown a disgraceful lack of leadership in failing to resolve the problem.

A current legal case has found there are refugees living in these camps who have relatives in the UK who have a legal right to claim asylum here.

I hope that concerned readers will write to their MPs to request that urgent action is taken to address the humanitarian crisis in Calais and Dunkirk.
