LETTER: Covenants are without value
Both The Parkfield public house and The Drive public house had covenants in place. Those of us who tried to save The Parkfield know that the covenant so carefully put in place by the original owners, stating that any building erected on the site must be used as a public house, was contemptuously ignored.
The Drive once boasted the largest function room of any public house in Eastbourne, now lost and gone forever.

Hide AdFrom memory, the covenant supposedly protecting The Drive (formerly The Merry Fiddler) from development was drawn up and inserted by Eastbourne Borough Council itself!
It seems that the covenants so lauded by the council, and intended to make the proposed sale amenable to Eastbourne residents, are valueless.
