LETTER: Enjoyable day

I am writing in response to John Wilkins of Red Admiral Street, Horsham's letter '˜Bombarded by festival music' in the County Times last week.

I attended the Fake Festival at the Holbrook Club in North Heath Lane on Saturday 4th June, where there were five local covers bands playing in the afternoon, and three tribute bands in the evening.

I am the manager of one of the covers bands. This is the first time my band have played at a festival of this size. However, the organisers of this event, the members of the Holbrook Club, the security there was first class. Everybody involved was so friendly and helpful, giving great encouragement and support to every band.

It brought together the community as a whole and everybody thoroughly enjoyed the day. The comment made by Mr Wilkins where he quoted ‘unless your poor taste is abundant for this tripe’ was, I think, greatly insulting not only to the bands concerned but the public who came along to support this live music event.

All the band members, who have worked hard to establish themselves over the years, who gave up their Saturday afternoon to entertain the people of this community, are hugely talented and superb musicians, who know how to put on a good show. No fees were paid to the covers bands, they were more than happy to play unpaid.

I was told that 400 letters were delivered to the residents surrounding the Holbrook Club, which I presumed included the residents of Red Admiral Street. Many of the residents surrounding this moved in after The Sunallon/Holbrook Club was established. This music event was held on one Saturday out of 52, so I can’t really see how anyone can complain.

Unfortunately the minority seem to try to spoil these events for the majority. Such a shame.
