LETTER: Everything comes around again

I was saddened to see the demolition of 'Saxonholme' not only because it was the last reminder of my family building firms existence in Newhaven, but happy memories as a youngster when the former residents, 'The Summerhays', used to collect conkers and apples and leave them for us to help ourselves.

However I am gratified to see that the services of police, fire and council have now adopted, dare I say, “The French combination”.

It is a pity that the Ambulance service could not also be incorporated but since much of the garden was sold off some years ago lack of space made it impossible.

As stated, this new facility should save a worthwhile sum to the combined services. It also goes to prove that the old saying that everything comes around again is correct. The Fire Station throughout the war years was just next door.
