LETTER: Experiences at Princess Royal

My husband needed a knee replacement revision last August.

This was done in Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath, but unfortunately resulted in a bad infection. The knee had to be removed and the knee packed with antibiotic cement. This was to be removed six weeks later and a new knee fitted.

This happened 24 weeks later due to cancellations. The cancellations were due to limited space in the high dependency ward needed (six cancellations in total).

On arrival the ward had 12 beds all empty. On leaving two a nd a half weeks later, 12 beds all empty. There were several patients during the time but never a full ward.

What should have taken five days has ended up as a year with three months of it in hospital.

The new knee is in but once again is infected resulting in 12 tablets a day for three months. Fingers crossed.

On a happier note, the staff and treatment at Princess Royal are second to none, and the atmosphere in Albourne ward is fantastic.
