LETTER: Help for first time buyers?

It was interesting reading your article on '˜concerns over plans for '˜pokey' flats'¦' proposed for the old council offices and then the article of affordable homes in Horsham area next to it in your November 10th publication.

Council officers pointed out that whilst the proposed ‘pokey’ flats would not have the best outlook they would be market homes and people moving into them would be doing so of their own free will. I don’t know what the meant by ‘market homes’ but no doubt someone in the housing industry might?

Cllr Vickers stated they were in a good location for people who wanted to get on the housing ladder.

As I understand it a quite a high proportion of apartments built in old office blocks over recent years have been bought by buy to let purchasers which automatically precludes people aspiring to get on the housing ladder. Is Cllr Vickers going to use her powers in her planning role to ensure developers offer their properties to first time buyers wanting to get on the housing ladder rather than buy to let companies/individuals?

If she is unable to use these powers I cannot see any chance of young people of Horsham getting on the housing ladder as she so succinctly describes it.
