LETTER: Improving quality of life

I write following my recent letter in the County Times of 4th July, when I raised the real concerns about the lack of resources and infrastructure in Billingshurst to support the ever increasing building.

Since my letter, agreement has been announced that another 145 houses in Marringdean Road and 45 houses adjacent to the Doctors’ Surgery has been approved, which leads me to highlight the following.

As many residents will know, over two years ago now, it was agreed to both fund and approve the expansion of the present Doctors’ Surgery, providing much needed capacity for its daily increase in patients, especially as Broadbridge Heath have been forced on the surgery, at the detriment of local people.

But who cares? What I would like to know is, why has there been a two year delay for this worthwhile much needed project?

Obviously the system for approving funding is top heavy, due to yet another quango being involved.

It seems to me that those who are elected to serve the community are all sitting on their hands, or have they been struck by the ‘ostrich syndrome?’

After my last letter, I was reminded about West Sussex County Council holding a plot of land in Forge Way for a new school.

It was held for 22 years, but then the site was sold for housing, exacerbating the chronic shortage of supporting infrastructure, as within two years both the Infants and Junior Schools were full and residents are being forced, at their own expense, to transport their children to schools outside the area.

Is there anyone out there that is actually listening, in control, or is everybody passing the parcel, sorry buck?

Isn’t it about time the s106 money was put to better use by improving the quality of life for the majority of people in Billingshurst?
