LETTER: Lack of respect at graveyard

My husband, the late Don Bassons, died in March 1999 and is buried at Hollington Church in the Wood graveyard.

Last weekend, our only daughter went up to tidy his grave after quite a time doing so. When she visited me last Wednesday morning, her day off work, she spoke to me. When I asked her about my husband’s grave, her father, she told me it was covered in dead leaves, but the plant I had put there a few years ago towards the bottom of the grave had completely disappeared, no root, nothing!

The last time I saw it, it was a healthy, pretty plant.

Is there no respect, not even for the dead in these days? Are people short of money to buy garden plants and have to stoop lowest to steal from the dead?

I cannot get up to my husband’s grave, I cannot get in my daughter’s car as I can only get around now in a wheelchair.

As you can guess, this has upset me very much.
