LETTER: Memories of village school

The hamlet of Mannings Heath had its own school from 1883 to 1946.

This village school lived through periods of huge social change from the Victorian Education Acts through two World Wars and has some fascinating stories to tell us.

I am a member of the Nuthurst History Society and my particular project is to research the history of this school with the intention of publishing the results as one of the growing list of society books on the history of our area.

The school took in pupils from four years of age and was doing so right up to the time of its closure in 1946.

I would be very interested in hearing from former pupils, or others, who have memories and, perhaps photographs, of their school days in Mannings Heath. Anything I receive that is used in any publication will, of course, be properly attributed.

If you have memories or pictures you would like to share, you can contact me by email at [email protected] or by phone on 07789621017.
