LETTER: Meter scenario is outrageous

We have had letters from our energy suppliers extolling the virtues of electricity smart meters. However, there are a couple of things these people don't tell us:

1. Smart meters are not compulsory; we can decline their installation in our homes.

2. These meters give the energy companies the ability to cut our supply, remotely, without using the present proper procedures.

More worrying is what Andrew Wright of OFGEM said about smart meters. It seems that when there is a shortage of generating capacity the energy companies could, unless we paid a premium, cut our supply. This would create a ‘them and us’ situation even amongst neighbours. Quite outrageous.
