LETTER: Misleading slogan

Britain Stronger in Europe is designated by the Electoral Commission as the official EU Referendum campaign body for the Remain group.

As such, not only does the slogan ‘Britain Stronger in Europe’ appear on numerous campaign materials but activists lobbying the electorate outside supermarkets, at public meetings, rallies and the like use language such as ‘Vote to remain in Europe on 23rd June’.

This is misleading and inaccurate. The Referendum on June 23 is to decide whether or not the UK should remain in the European Union (EU) and not whether the UK should remain a part of Europe.

On the 23rd of June the decision voters need to come to is whether they wish to be ruled by unelected bureaucrats in Brussels and drawn into an ever increasing political superstate with consequential loss of control and sovereignty.

The referendum is not about whether the UK should be a part of Europe. Most, if not all of us, love Europe and being a part of Europe and its varying cultures. It is the EU which is systematically destroying the individuality of the countries that together and separately comprise Europe ironically as a consequence of their being in the EU.

Clearly the Electoral Commission has overlooked a significant anomaly in accepting ‘Britain Stronger in Europe’ on behalf of the Remain group and I would suggest to avoid misleading the electorate that the slogan Britain Stronger in Europe is replaced with Britain Stronger in the EU.

There’s an important and significant difference and misrepresenting such an important issue could be regarded as a deliberate attempt to mislead the electorate.
