LETTER: New station with parking

I had to check that your issue was not dated 1st April when I read of Councillor Brad Watson's ludicrous suggestion that Christ's Hospital Station should be upgraded in favour of a new station in the proposed development north of Horsham.

The developers obviously have the right idea in suggesting that a new station should be built and the planning authorities should not allow it to go ahead without a cast iron guarantee from Network Rail that the station would be built.

If the development goes ahead without the station the result will be traffic chaos in the immediate vicinity particularly in the rush hour, when drivers emerge from the area seeking to cross the A264 in search of a parking space within reach of the nearest station – Littlehaven. The situation around Littlehaven is already difficult with on-road parking all round the area all day during the week.

Can someone please exercise a bit of joined up thinking and insist that not only a new station be provided but that it has sufficient parking facilities not only for those living in the immediate vicinity but also for those who presently use Littlehaven Station.

On other matters - ‘Multiplex cinema in town centre revamp’ on the front page (Horsham edition) followed by ‘New state-of-the-art multiplex for town’.

Such headlines mislead the reader to believe that this development is a done deal. Only on reading further does one discover that these are proposals which ‘are expected to be unveiled...’.

I seem to recall you similarly trumpeting the arrival of a University of Sussex campus on the Novartis site – but that came to nothing and there is every possibility that the Swan Walk proposal might go the same way.

Can we have some more accuracy or, dare I say, truthfulness, in your headlines? Meanwhile, some real news – the closure of Beales department store - is relegated to page eight.

I would have thought that this was worthy of more prominence.
