LETTER: Overcrowding and irritations

Further to my letter on railway capabilities could I please stand up for the daily commuters who at Pulborough or Horsham join their trains for London and then at Gatwick Airport are confronted by a quite inappropriate invasion of suitcases and bags as air passengers join the train. Result - overcrowding and mutual irritations.

This is quite absurd as the Gatwick Express is specially dedicated for the fast conveyance of air passengers and their heavy luggage between Gatwick Airport and London Victoria and often looks rather empty.

Before this competition with Southern, air passengers were automatically guided to the Gatwick Express trains, the fare was the same and the first impression of the UK from view point of overseas friends was positive.

We should reinstate this ‘joined up’ thinking now.
