LETTER: Plenty of places to eat already

I write to continue the discussion on David Edward's views on the council's proposal for the replacement of the demolished Wish Tower restaurant. He has raised questions that need to be answered. When the previous restaurant was demolished there was much comment, of which a great deal was adverse. The council redeemed itself when it erected the present Western View tea room with its outside area of wood which has toned to a pleasant silvery hue. It has proved to be a welcome oasis and even in winter people can be seen sitting outside enjoying the views to the downs. But now it seems that the council intends to dismantle it and reconstruct elsewhere in the town, when instead it could be incorporated into a new facility to be built there. But do we need another restaurant, cordon bleu or otherwise? Surely not, there are plenty of places to eat already. Why not just a lounge to complement the tea room?
