LETTER: Safeguards for the ratepayers

I am referring to the article on page 2 of the WSCT 21st January 2016, about the proposed increase in the council tax for police of £5 per year for Band D.

I have to question the wisdom of such a proposal, when ratepayers this April will be squeezed from all directions, as all councils will have their begging bowls out and shaking the money tree, i.e. the ratepayer.

Surely there should be some safeguard for the under siege ratepayer, after being misled last year with the promise of more police and naturally it didn’t happen.

It speaks volumes about the inability of the Police and Crime Commission to manage the job it is handsomely paid for.
