LETTER: Scare mongering or facts...

The Bank of England, lead by Mark Carney - who was praised and approved by all political parties upon his appointment, not to mention being entirely independent on political matters - has clearly expressed his concern about the highly probable disastrous financial consequences which could entail leaving the EU.

I find it bewildering that this band of seemingly self-interested people are now saying that he is wrong? The City, IMF and the OECD have all given good and fair warning as to what such an exit would cause - and indeed Sterling has already started to fall. We already have access to the largest market in the world - do we really believe that we can so easily renegotiate a new and equitable trade deal agreement overnight? Canada have already been trying for the past 7 years. British universities receive £1,2bn in EU funding annually - helping researchers to collaborate with experts from across the EU - which would disappear upon our departure. Newer universities, such as Southampton, receive 91% of its grant research income from the EU. A quarter of Cambridge competitive research grants come from the EU. Every university in the UK has come out against the prospect of leaving the EU - and it should never be forgotten that these students are our future.

Economic immigration benefits completely out way any downside to our economy and well being - including the NHS. Humanitarian immigration is not just for us but for all of Europe, and we should all share in this desperate problem - after all, our intervention or non-intervention globally certainly helped to create this situation in the first place. The larger unions in this country, all agree to remain in the EU - in order to protect our workplace, and jobs. They do not see our involvement in the EU as a threat to UK employment - quite the opposite. Xenophobia from extreme right wing partys, failed politicians, a self-interested buffoon with a surgically inserted thesaurus - are these really the people we want to believe, and lead us into the future? The EU may not be entirely perfect - but surely it is better to change an institution from within the club, as opposed to from the outside? I write this as a proud English man, as well as a proud European.
