LETTER: School places '˜shock' again

Once again, local parents are '˜shocked' when their children aren't allocated their school preference in the latest round of placements (Shoreham Herald and online, March 16), yet once again the admissions documentation has been clear.

Of course there is an expectation that children will be placed in a ‘local’ school and I don’t dispute that is reasonable, but for parents to say they had ‘no idea’ and that they were ‘completely unaware’ of the possibility of receiving a place at the Storrington site attached to Steyning Grammar, is not the fault of the council.

As your report states, an information booklet was provided and the Steyning Grammar open evening reinforced this message regarding dual sites.

Just because those parents affected chose not to avail themselves of this information does not mean they have a right to complain the system is unfair.

It’s unfortunate and I wish the parents well in their appeals but the reality is they didn’t give their full attention to the process and cannot therefore fully substantiate their complaints.
