LETTER: Sticking plaster solutions

High tide, strong wind and the Environment Agency rushes into action over more than 100 miles of coast where it knows the sea defences could be overwhelmed.

So arrangements are quickly put in place to strengthen (or is it patch?) these areas with sandbags and plastic sheets.

We are told we are the sixth biggest economy in the world and yet we have to use ‘sticking plasters’ to protect our shores.

I think Holland has the same tidal forces as the UK and I wonder if they resort to temporary measures or if they have proper defences?
