LETTER: Take your oar out, Mr Blair

We live in divisive and discordant times, not only because of Brexit but also due to the efforts of those who cannot accept the determination of the majority to leave the EU. It has resulted in a hitherto unheard of failure to accept the result of a general vote to the extent of quite a fair number of politicians joining in opposition to the result and working towards a repeat of the referendum.

Now joining with this opposition to the Leave argument is none other than Tony Blair, who obviously fails to recognise that he is part of the Establishment that so strongly prompted the will of the majority to at last ‘stand up and be counted’ via our valuable electoral system.Blair, good as he has been at some things, is no longer in an elected position and must know the error of fighting against the will of the public, properly determined through the ballot box.

I am reminded of those types who oppose major constructions such as the creation of a new major road for the benefit of the general community by building nests in trees. They cause an extended amount of time as well as much extra cash to finish the project, which of course is finally completed.

We in Eastbourne voted by a majority to leave the EU and fortunately happened to be supported in that respect by the present local MP. Now we have the possibility of further procrastination which could add to the woes that may arise if the present posturing within the EU is to be a forecast of the future.

Teresa May has enough on her plate without the likes of Blair putting yet another oar in and it’s a pity he wouldn’t join with her in her monumental task instead of wasting the country’s cash and time by any form of argument when she has already stated her firm commitment to the date in March. We cannot afford yet further wasting of time and effort on the very difficult task ahead when the efforts of all should enjoin for the sake of our country. She is entitled to deal with those EU people without having to also ‘do battle’ with such characters as Blair.
