LETTER: Thank you for prompt action

In these days of so much adverse publicity regarding the NHS and our local hospitals I must write about my recent experience.

In July I became aware of a change in my eyesight and contacted Early & Edmonds, Opticians of Burgess Hill.

I was immediately given an appointment on the same day for an eye test. As a result of the examination I was straight away referred to my doctor at Silverdale Practice and was seen within half an hour. He ‘phoned the Sussex Eye Hospital as Early & Edmonds stressed there was some urgency and I had to attend the following morning.

After a short wait I was seen first by a nurse for an eye test, had scans taken, saw a doctor who diagnosed macular degeneration. had dye injected, further scans and then seen by the Macular Degeneration Consultant. He prescribed three monthly eye injections starting the following week. All these procedures had been completed in less than three hours.

These injections were followed four weeks later with another scan and consultation. The result of which showed that the excess fluid in my eye had gone and there was an improvement in my sight. I have to have another scan at the end of the month, but for the present a break from the injections.

I am convinced that this improvement is due to the prompt attention and actions of Early & Edmonds, Silverdale Practice and the Sussex Eye Hospital.

Everybody involved has been very helpful and caring. A very big ‘THANK YOU’ to them all.
