LETTER: Thanks for a job well done

In mid-summer, when we received notification that the A22 through Nutley to Horney Common was to be dug up by South East Water to replace and service the mains, we were of course very concerned.

The reasoning behind our concern was the potential delay for people using the road, queuing traffic, failing traffic lights and the environmental impact on the Ashdown Forest, especially as we were informed that the work would start on August 23 2017 and end on March 15 2018.

We did attend a meeting in Nutley Village Hall to discuss our concerns where there were representatives from South East Water, East Sussex Highways and the contractor Docwra.

At the meeting it was explained that this was essential work, and that it could not be delayed and that the time scale was acceptable for this type of work.

We left the meeting and resigned ourselves for the oncoming disruption to our lives as both residents of Nutley and commuters who use the A22 on a daily basis.

The work started on August 23 and progressed rapidly without the delays and congestion expected.

The work was actually completed in mid-December, some three months earlier than planned, so well done to the contractors Docwra for achieving this and for the manner in which the work was undertaken.

It is very easy to complain, so we are pleased to be able to say that there were no long delays, the traffic lights did not fail and the team worked late into the evenings and at weekends in sometimes horrible weather to achieve their goal. Thank you for a job well done.
