LETTER: Thanks to Good Samaritan

On Tuesday [December 6], an older gentleman had a nasty fall at the corner of Burlington Place and Cornfield Terrace. His face was cut and bleeding, and his nose looked in a bad way. I don't know what other injuries he may have had; he was obviously very shaken.

A passer-by had managed to cover him with a coat, found something to pillow his head, and was tending to the bleeding. I asked if I could help but was told an ambulance had been called.

I returned 45 minutes later and they were still there. This time I was able to take them a glass of water. It was interesting to see just in those few minutes how many people crossed the road to avoid the scene. The ambulance arrived soon afterwards.

I would like to thank the ‘Good Samaritan’ who looked after this man. Even though he was on his way to somewhere else and had things to do, he put a stranger first and stayed with him. I hope that he made it to his bowls tournament for 2pm!

At this time of year, when we all seem to be busy rushing around, it was a timely reminder for me that sometimes things just have to stop, and someone else has to take priority.
