LETTER: Village bursting at the seams

I see from the County Times of July 21 that Billingshurst is going to have yet more homes - 51 + 475 + 87 and 200 already agreed.

Yet every day more and more people move into our already overcrowded village.

The infrastructure is creaking and bursting at the seams. Important things like aforementioned doctors’ surgery, infant and junior schools are full, together with the Weald School. Even the pre-schools, one has to enrol the unborn child to secure a place.

Yet nobody in authority appears to be competent enough to realise the problem is getting worse and the more new homes being built, the more it dissipates the infrastructure. At one time the infrastructure had to support the development, now the ‘tail wags the dog’ and unfortunately commonsense no longer prevails.

Of course, those who can make a decision or make a difference seem unable or reluctant to help the ordinary people. Perhaps there needs to be close scrutiny as to how the s106 monies, which is gained by new development, is spent and by whom.

Maybe there should be less vanity projects and more practical ones. Need appears to be forgotten!

Perhaps I should indulge myself with a pair of rose tinted glasses!
