A collective feeling of kindness of care from across the nation

I came across this cheerful sight in Motcombe Gardens this weekend. Thank you to the unknown artist for this symbol of hope! Taken with my Samsung s10 phone.

There appears to be a collective feeling of kindness and care from across the nation in support of vulnerable people in our society, running alongside the outstanding support for those who in their various roles endeavour to keep us alive, and the country still running in some sort of order.

Having acknowledged that nationally over the past couple of months, this week I experienced it first hand here in Eastbourne.

During a brief period of exercise walking on the promenade on a chilly afternoon last Wednesday I slipped, I’ve still no idea on what, my head hitting the ground with some force and very obvious injury.

I immediately found myself in the amazing care of complete strangers, who stayed with me for some considerable time until medical aid arrived and eventually an ambulance.

So may I please though the Herald, the only means available to me, give my most heartfelt thanks to Gemma (first aider) Bridget, Clare, another Clare (a GP) their husbands and Adam a paramedic, for their incredible first aid care, kindness, and keeping me awake and as warm as possible at the expense of their own comfort.

Fortunately apart from the expected obvious facial and head injuries, I returned home the next day and am slowly recovering.

In a sometimes seemingly fast-paced impersonal world it’s good to know that such selfless acts of human kindness prevails.
