Please could I bring to the paper’s attention the very dangerous situation regarding the Cophall roundabout at Polegate.

There has been an ongoing issue with the roundabout since it was created .

When you approach the roundabout from the B2247 Hailsham Road (the road from the top of Polegate High Sreet), the road is a single carriageway.

As you get to the roundabout the road widens and there is a inside lane, signed on the road as turn left, and the outside arrow is onto the roundabout.

If you try to ignore the left hand turn lane marker you cannot drive onto the roundabout in that lane because the lane swings left and the road runs out.

The only way forward is to cut into the outside lane and there lies the problem.

During the rush hour there is always a queue on the outside lane but some drivers either do not see the road markings or as often as not jump the queue and then cut up the drivers in the outside lane.

I have been trying to get a sign put up making it clear it’s a left hand turn lane. All the traffic agencies in tern have said it’s not our problem.

My MP has been very helpful and so has the response on Facebook under the Polegate Residents page.

Almost everyone has written in giving examples of near misses from drivers cutting in from the inside lane and others say they avoid it.

I have been given the brush off from all highways including the Polegate Town Council.

But Maria Caulfield and Rachel Groves have been very supportive.

There is an urgency about this because at this time there are major roadworks going on around the roundabout and this would be the best time to get something done at a low cost.
