A Lady’s legacy

We first met in the garden of our vet in Sussex, Dora Green, where ‘special clients’ were allowed to wait their turn, and I was honoured to be one of them.

When Dora sadly died of cancer, it became our job to find homes for her animals.

Many years later we took in about 30 donkeys from Greece and Lady Herries kindly took several of them to live in her lovely park.

One she became particularly fond of was Hunny, a cross between a Jenni donkey and a stallion. Since then, she has always been willing to help with taking in ponies when our sanctuary is bursting.

When our previous president, Lady Hawarden, died, Lady Herries willingly accepted the role. She was a lovely lady in every way and cared for her donkeys and horses so much.

I only spoke to her a few weeks before she died and I was looking forward to visiting her and the ponies, but sadly this was not to be. She will be greatly missed.
