The celebrations were the culmination of a successful term focused on the topic ‘Inside India’ which explored the country’s culture, cuisine and landscape. During the day, the children were able to bring the topic to life by dressing up in traditional Indian clothes, as well as feasting on some well-known tasters such as poppadoms, chutneys, pakoras, samosas and onion bhajis. Pupils from Year 6 also got involved by providing henna tattoos.

The highlight of the day was the appearance of a specialist Bollywood dance teacher, invited to the School to lead a dance workshop for each of the three classes. By the end of the workshop the children gave a one-off performance of the song “Jai Ho”.

Mrs Hurst, Head of Year 5, Billingshurst Primary School comments:“We were extremely proud of the hard work and enthusiasm shown by the pupils around this term’s topic and wanted to provide an opportunity to extend their learning through experiencing the tastes and sounds of India. The celebration wouldn’t have been complete without a reference to Bollywood and the children embraced the performance with great excitement.”
