A plentiful source of energy

I would like to support Mr ID Tomisson’s letter, with regard to shale fracking.

This government, led by our MP Amber Rudd, has most sensibly decided to go ahead with developing this plentiful source of energy.

Geologists have estimated that there is enough shale gas and oil in this country to supply our needs for decades to come; the Bowland shale area in Lancashire, with a thicker seam of shale than any in the USA, could alone supply enough gas for the whole UK for about 50 years.

Why should we remain beholden to foreign powers, paying high prices as a result, for what we can produce ourselves?

The continual delay there has been in getting on with the job of fracking is not surprising, seeing that the anti-fracking fraternity have been given so much publicity (thanks mainly to the BBC); while knowledgeable people who are aware, for instance, that the fracking industry, apart from anything else, opens the prospect of 70,000 new jobs, are generally ignored.
