A sad decision

I write with an element of sadness and huge frustration on the news that Arun District Council has voted through a proposal to allow another 600 homes to be built in Angmering.

Whilst there appears to have been some division in the voting, I simply cannot believe that those who we elected to do their best for our district have ignored the wishes of the majority and simply voted in their own interests or to advance their tawdry careers.

The few who were prepared to put principle above party appear to have voiced their opposition like church mice, devoid of argument and facts.

England’s green and pleasant land took a serious knock on Wednesday, April 30, and this lovely South Downs village may never recover.

Such an important moment in local politics should not be forgotten or simply consigned to the local history archives.

I feel the ignominy of the moment should be preserved, nay captured, for posterity and so our children and our children’s children can see for themselves the architects of the demise of our village.

I would like to see a headstone placed on the village green in Angmering that depicts the names of all those councillors who voted in favour of the bricks and bulldozers and the destruction of a beautiful corner of England.
