With plenty of parking for cars and Lorries here you will find JJ’s BBQ & Burgers and Jason serving 100% beef burgers flavoured with his special blend of American spices, cooked fresh to order and served with a variety of toppings. Or you can taste real American style pulled pork BBQ, slow cooked over charcoal for 12 – 14 hours creating tender pork strips served with sauce in a roll. Breakfast baps are also on the menu plus cold sandwiches, fresh baked American chocolate chip cookies and gourmet Stateside coffee to go. All the meat is freshly purchased from award winning John Murrays Butcher in Loxwood where Jason and his wife now reside.

So how did an authentic American county boy arrive in Alfold flipping his tasty burgers? Jason says you can blame his wife whom he met in Virginia, USA. He chased her to Cape Town, South Africa before they got married. After living a life together driving big rigs on the open roads of the United States they decided to move back closer to her parents who live in Cranleigh. So 3 years ago they packed up everything including the dog and flew over to jolly ole’ England.

“It has been a huge change” says Jason. “I first drove lorries in London and on these narrow twisty roads and realized that the attitude to lorry drivers over here is very different to the States. I have been called names I will not repeat in front of ladies! But my first love is cooking and so I chose to leave the cab and cook my delicious BBQ for those hungry drivers.” Originally he served in a layby in Crawley however the Alfold Garden Centre asked him to come and set up in their car park to give their customers refreshments while they shopped. It worked out perfectly because it is nearer to his home in Loxwood, he can top up supplies from John Murrays Butcher and word of mouth is spreading like wildfire. Plus there is the hand carwash so you can drive off with a bright shiny vehicle, garden supplies and gifts and good food in your stomach. What a wonderful way to spend the morning!
