A27 miles better

I felt I had to reply to Richard Foster’s letter (Gazette, September 5).

He completely forgot to answer the point about the roadworks at Crossbush and the temporary lights at Arundel.

All he could focus on was that I was going five miles out of my way and Arundel had a bypass.

I work long, 12-hour shifts and want to get to and from work as quickly as possible. I worked a 12-hour shift on Sunday and clocked the mileage in the morning, going the supposedly quicker way, according to Mr Foster, on the A259 from the Wick roundabout to the Fontwell roundabout and it was 7.8 miles. On the way home, I went along the A27, again clocking the mileage and it was 7.5 miles. So, it is not quicker on the A259. I do not know where Mr Foster gets his figure of five miles out of my way.

I feel Mr Foster tried to make me look silly as I am a woman driver. I have been doing this journey for over a year and the traffic has got worse along Lyminster Road, near Crossbush, because of the roadworks at the lights that never have anyone working there.

It’s also worse through Arundel, going past the station and even on the so-called Causeway bypass and does not clear until you reach the dual carriageway again.

The one fact I did get wrong in my letter was it does not take me ten minutes to get to the A27, but 20, a typing error by me.

Yes, we have some beautiful countryside, but with the amount of cars on the road, you really do get to see it whilst sitting in a traffic jam!

Again, the A27 from Crossbush to the dual carriageway on the western side of Arundel needs a bypass better than the so called Causeway!
