Absurd parking in our town

Last week whilst waiting with and for friends on the footway at the east end of the DWLP we were asked, politely, to step aside so a local business owner could park his car half on yellow lines and half on the footway.

I regret that I overreacted to the absurdity of the situation and an argument ensued – that was my fault and I apologise to the gentleman concerned.

That does not condone what he did but his defence that he would not pay to use the car park when there are so many cars illegally parked without sanction is difficult to argue with. So is there a solution short of decriminalistion?

I suggest that RDC provide a lockable reserved space for each Colonnade business and insist on uptake as a lease condition but that only scratches the surface so our attention focuses on the police again.

Our re elected PCC makes much of supporting victims of crime.

Well until parking is decriminalised we continue to be victims and I submit that the incident described is symptomatic of this

Furthermore hardly a week goes by without a report of somebody falling on a broken pavement and they get broken when they are parked on,they are not designed for vehicles.

Lots of meetings take place on the issue, you and I pay for the tea and biscuits and still nothing is done

Please either step up or make the free for all official
