Accurate finding

THANK you for your article about the report on Darlington Court by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

I had just a few days prior sent a letter to Mike Parish, chief executive of Care UK – which runs Darlington Court.

In essence, the experience of myself, my relatives and sister, a resident there, accurately reflect the findings of the CQC.

I can not give specific details of issues that concerned us, due to the brevity and confidentiality behind them.

However, one of the issues was a culture of blame of others that seemed to be the norm rather than anyone accepting any responsibility for what happened in their unit.

I was dismayed to see in the article that in fact this attitude stems from higher management.

The regional director for Sussex said the evaluation ‘was unfair and not representative’.

Well we found it spot on.

It always seems to be somebody else’s fault.

One of the director’s complaints about the report was that only five residents gave unfavourable interviews with the CQC. They felt that more people should have been sampled. So, what is the optimal number that would be more favourable?
