Achievement in voluntary sector

As chairman of Southwater Football Club I would like to present the following as a tribute to what can be achieved with goodwill and good people in the voluntary sector relating to sport.

As an integral part of Southwater Sports Club, Southwater Football Club has existed for approximately 50 years, supplying football for much of that time mainly for adult teams. More recently (and I do mean, for about the past 20 years) there has been a greater leaning towards ensuring that the senior sides draw their new players from our own junior sides.

The football club presently runs junior sides from under 14s down to under 8s, giving approximately 80 children a game every weekend.

We would dearly like to extend these ages to include under 16s and under 18s but finding the right type of people to take on this commitment at present proves to be a bit of a task.

This can only happen, of course, with the help of tremendously committed helpers and fund raisers to keep the club viable.

We have authorised 1st aiders, FA Qualified Coaches, all FA Affiliation required and CRB checks in place.

Most of the costs for these facilities funded by the club via our fundraising team.

In addition we run five senior teams, three on Saturdays and two Sundays. Here again we provide football for all standards of players, on Saturdays in the Covers West Sussex Football league, from Division 5 up to Division1 and on Sundays in the Worthing and Horsham District Sunday League with about a further 80 players, in total, signed on.

This is where we are at present. We would love to move forward with our plans for U16 and U18 sides but we cannot do this without the right people on board. We are always on the lookout for committed people to join our club in any capacity, whether it is playing at any age, coaching, managing or just generally helping out on a part time basis.
