Advice from where?

WHAT was the government thinking when it made the decision to close all the Connexions services for young people at the end of this month?

Where will 16 and 17-year-olds go to get advice on writing CVs, how to apply for jobs and college courses, key interview skills and how to gain experience?

How short-sighted the government is. These young people are our future. We owe it to them to give them a foot on the ladder. Most 16- and 17-year-olds cannot access the Jobcentre or claim job seekers’ allowance until they are 18.

They are the forgotten youth, left to struggle when applying for jobs with fierce competition, when they have no experience.

They desperately need professional advice from experts to give them encouragement and keep them motivated.

As well as the apprenticeship scheme, let’s help these willing workers find real jobs now before they become de-motivated and get caught in the benefit trap.
